COVID-19 and Illness Prevention Measures
Purple Door Music has taken many steps to protect our students and teachers.
Air Filtration System
Purple Door Music Academy is housed in the basement of a residential home. Owner, Kimberley Denis, has installed a HEPA filter and static electricity air filtration system on the main furnace, as well as a UV-C light to treat all air in the home before it is circulated in the house. Fresh air is drawn in from outside the home and air is exchanged in the house approximately every 30 minutes.
In addition, a large cold air exchange system has been installed to draw air out of the basement faster, and a large fan has been installed in the bathroom to encourage even more air exchange in the basement.
Air Purifiers
Current research indicates that air purifiers with HEPA filters and UV-C lights placed at the point of performance (ie. where the student stands) significantly decrease airborne molecules. (See the study available from the University of Cincinnati.) Each studio has been equipped with a Germ Guardian Air purifier which includes both a HEPA filter and a UV-C light. The purifiers will be on continuously throughout the lesson.
Plexiglass Shields
Each studio has been equipped with a large plexiglass shield which will be placed between the student and the teacher to prevent exchange of large droplets.
Cleaning
Music stands, pianos and pencils will be disinfected between each student. In addition, only the teacher is allowed to open and close the classroom doors. The entire studio is also cleaned every evening and high touch areas are cleaned throughout the day.
Hand Sanitizer
Upon entry to the studio, every student is asked to use the sanitizer provided at the door before going to the basement.
Gathering
Parents are encouraged to wait in the car or run errands during the lesson to decrease the number of people in the studio space. They are asked to avoid idling their cars as we are drawing large volumes of fresh air into the home during the lesson.
Masks
Students and teachers may choose to wear masks pending their comfort level in the lesson.
