At this time, we are only accepting students ages 6 to adult. Programming for children younger than 6 years of age will resume once the COVID-19 pandemic has ended.
Each teacher at Purple Door Music Academy has a slightly different rate, dependent upon their experience and the instrument or subject that they teach. Students may register for lesson packages or the Performer's Elite package.
The Performer's Elite package includes 32 private lessons, 2 masterclasses, and 2 recitals held between September and June. Lessons, masterclasses, and recitals may be held in-person or online, depending on the current state of the pandemic.
Students opting for the lesson packages will not be eligible to participate in masterclasses or recitals. Lessons packages can be purchased in groups of 1, 5, 10 or 20.

All students and teachers will be asked to wear a mask when entering the building and may be asked to wear one during their lesson. In addition, hand sanitizer stations will be used upon entry and exit to the studio. Parents are asked to wait outside to limit the number of people in the studio and avoid idling their cars during the lesson. There are many coffee shops, grocery stores, and other places where errands could be run while your child is in their lesson.
There is ample street parking available in front of the house. Please avoid driving on the sidewalk when doing a u-turn in front of the house, especially in the winter as this makes the snow on the sidewalk nearly impossible to remove.
Registration and Book Fees
Once a lesson time has been booked, all students will be asked to submit a $125 non-refundable registration and book fee to secure their spot in the studio. Purple Door Music Academy will provide up to three music books for private study as well as other sheet music as required by the teacher throughout the year. The Registration and Book fee must be received 48 hours prior to the first lesson.
All students opting for the Performer's Elite Package will also receive a membership in the MacEwan University Conservatory of Music and have access to discounted parking and practice rooms at Alberta College, downtown with their registration. Purple Door Music Academy will submit your registration on your behalf.
The Full Year Package may be financed in 2, 3 or 6 payments or paid in a single lump sum at the beginning of the year. Payments can be made by credit card, e-transfer to email@example.com, or cheque made payable to Purple Door Music Academy. Lesson Packages must be paid in one payment.
All payments must be received by the deadline to maintain your spot in the studio. Payment Deadlines will be as follows
Registration and Book Fee - 48 hours prior to the beginning of lessons
Single Payments - October 1 or the first of the month immediately following the beginning of lessons
Two Payments - October 1 and January 1
Three Payments - October 1, December 1, and February 1
Six Payments - the first of every month between October and March
If a student begins part way through the year, there lesson number and Performer's Elite Package cost will be pro-rated for the year.
Payments made by credit card are subject to a 5% transaction fee. Payments made by e-transfer or cheque are not subject to any transaction fees. An administration fee of $40.00 is charged for returned items from the bank and must be settled before the next scheduled payment. Should an item be returned from the book, all future payments must be made by credit card kept on file with Purple Door Music.
Lesson Scheduling and Missed Lessons
All students will be assigned a weekly, regularly scheduled time for their lesson. Lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes. As our studio is very full, it is often very difficult to provide extra lessons for students; when options are available for students, they are asked to sign up early in the season for make-up lessons rather than waiting until the end of the year. If a student misses their regularly scheduled time, they may be able to schedule a make-up lesson with their teacher, provided they have given at least 24 hours notice and your teacher is available to make up the lesson. Your teacher is not obligated to provide a make-up lesson for lessons missed by a student. Students are required to give a minimum 24-48 hours notice if they will be missing a lesson. More notice is appreciated. Should students fail to give the minimum amount of notice, no opportunity for a make-up lesson will be given. This time has been set aside for you and your teacher has built their schedule to be available to you during this time. If a student misses the masterclass or recital, no refunds will be issued. Statutory holidays are not counted in the lesson count and do not need to be made up.
In case of student illness or illness in the family, students are asked to contact firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an online lesson during their regular lesson time. It is imperative that students DO NOT attend a lesson if they are unwell. We have built a couple of sick weeks into the schedule to accommodate these circumstances while ensuring you still receive 32 lessons. Purple Door Music Academy appreciates your efforts to help us maintain a healthy studio. If school or busing is cancelled due to a snow day, you can assume that lessons will still take place as roads are usually cleared by noon, but please use your judgement regarding road safety, especially if a snow storm begins in the afternoon.
It is very difficult to re-arrange a student's lesson time throughout the year to accommodate other extra-curricular activities or vacation plans. We will do our best to accommodate the request, but it may not be possible.
Occasionally, your teacher will need to miss a lesson. In these instances, we will offer an opportunity to re-schedule the lesson. We have built a certain number of missed lessons into our lesson numbers and we will ensure that you receive 36 lessons throughout the year.
If there are concerns or questions, parents are asked to email these questions to the teacher or Purple Door Music Academy (email@example.com) rather than using the beginning of your child's lesson time to answer questions. No questions will be answered following the lesson as this takes time away from another student. If you happen to miss a lesson, your teacher will be using this time to assess student progress and plan activities for future lessons.
Refunds and Withdrawals
As there will be ample opportunities for make-up lessons, and because lessons can be offered both online and in-person, there will be no refunds given for the Full Year Package or Lesson Packages. If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent in-person lessons from taking place, all lessons will take place online. Should a participant decide to not participate in online lessons or not complete their make-up lessons, no refunds will be given for unused lessons.
Students are expected to commit to the full year of lessons if opting for the Full Year Package unless otherwise discussed and approved by Purple Door Music Academy. Withdrawals from Purple Door Music Academy throughout the year are possible with two full months paid notice. Notice of withdrawal must be received in writing. Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal.
Some students opt to register for exams with the Royal Conservatory of Music or participate in the Fall Festival or Kiwanis Music Festival. The fees associated with registration and accompanists for these undertakings or other external events in which the student may participate will be the responsibility of the student.
Books and Materials
Purple Door Music Academy will purchase books and sheet music as required by the teacher for our students. Students will be invoiced by Purple Door Music Academy for the materials they are given by the teacher.
Registration for Classes is currently closed due to the restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please Contact Us to be placed on the mailing list.

October to January - $350

Lessons in music theory are an excellent supplement to voice and piano study. Sing in a choir? Take some music theory lessons and improve your sight reading! Play in a concert band? Take some music theory lessons and improve your understanding of how music works on the page. Music theory teaches us the building blocks of music and allows the student to have a more in-depth understanding of how the music we play and sing works. If we have enough students doing the same level, we can organize a small group class to accommodate all of them.
